Fishing with Grandpa

We just got home from visiting family (while everyone else was in school, definitely another plus of homeschooling), and my father has a fishing boat. Ever since our trip to RI this past summer my kids have been wanting to go on another boat ride. This was their big chance. Unfortunately the motor wasn't running properly so we had to take a short boat ride to the dock and fish from there.

David loved it. He just wanted to keep fishing and fishing.

Unfortunately, Paul was done from the moment we got there (he wasn't a fan of wearing a life jacket and not being allowed down on the dock to crawl. Isn't that every 8 month old's dream?), and Lily and Quincy weren't far behind.

They learned about what fish eat: flies, worms, hot dogs (ok, so that was to try for crawdads, but that didn't work), and salmon eggs.

Fish were jumping all around us. Did we catch anything? No....

They had a magnificent time, even with being done after a while (they kept forgetting they wanted to go) and we were blessed to see not one, but SIX bald eagles. And the kids were able to learn that young bald eagles do not have a white head yet. Three of them were juvenile and thus still had a brown head. One of the eagles even caught a fish while we were watching. They are quite the amazing birds.
